I wrote this arrangement when my little brother told me this was the hymn he wanted sung when he left to serve his mission for our church. We recorded one of our practices and I decided to put it up here so you could hear what it sounds like. The singers are my sweet family. In order of how you hear them on the recording: My Sister-in-law Darci, My Brother Brandon, Myself, and my (baby) Brother Taylor who’s missionary farewell we were singing for. Enjoy!
I was asked to prepare a special musical number for Memorial Day and looked through the Hymn Book for inspiration. I absolutely loved the words to this beautiful hymn but wanted something softer for the occasion. I used the melody for “In Humility Our Savior” and got the effect I was looking for. I did keep the original melody for the line “Ever onward, ever onward, blessed, honored pioneer”. Here’s what I came up with.
One of my first arrangements written while I was a missionary in Mongolia for a baptism of a family I was privileged to teach.
Written by my sister (Chalise Watson) and I specifically to sing with my powerhouse soprano-of-a-sister and my mother’s beautiful, rich alto voice, this is a pretty involved and somewhat demanding trio. But the final effect is quite lovely. Enjoy!
